MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) - The Muskegon Art Museum says it raised $7.1 million during its centennial year celebration and is 95 percent of the way to its goal for a campaign linked to its upcoming separation from the Muskegon Public Schools.

The museum opened in 1912 as the Hackley Art Gallery and has marked its 100 years of operation with a 13-month celebration.

The museum is separating from the Muskegon schools in 2014, and the museum is raising money for an endowment that it says will assure its continuing operations. The goal for that fund is $7.5 million.
