Dallas Auction Gallery scores high with contemporary art |

DALLAS – The continued strength and international appeal of Modern and Contemporary art was evident in the exceptional prices achieved at Dallas Auction Gallery’s Oct. 24 sale. The highlights of the sale were two works on paper by Gerhard Richter that fared exceptionally well with aggressive bidding. Untitled (7.6.84) and Untitled (2.6.84) sold for an impressive $120,000 and $110,000, respectively, against presale estimates of $40,000-$60,000 each. Prices do not include the buyer’s premium.
Modern and Contemporary artists were well represented. A Pablo Picasso graphite drawing from 1921 sold for $55,000, a Henry Moore bronze of a seated figure sold for $22,000 and a large acrylic on canvas by Leon Golub, The Assasin, sold for $37,500. French artists fared well including Eugene Galien-Laloue, whose Place de la Republique, gouache on paper, sold for $18,000 against an estimate of $8,000-$12,000 and an oil on canvas by Bernard Buffet executed in 1959 sold for $42,500. Additional highlights included Requiem vs. Rejuvinesce, a 1992 oil on canvas by Lui Liu (Chinese, b. 1957), which sold for $32,500 and Couleur Additive - Demi Cercle, a 2000 acrylic on canvas by Carlos Cruz-Diez (Venezuelan, b. 1923), which realized: $27,500.
